“So above all, guard the affections of your heart, for they affect all that you are.” Proverbs 4:23a TPT
Lord, we ask you to help us guard our hearts. It is so easy for us to get distracted and attached to things that we shouldn’t. We thank you for the emotions that you have given us. We thank you for the ability to feel, to rejoice, to cry, to love, to hurt. Emotions are a wonderful gift from you, but they can get us in so much trouble. Help us learn how to rule over our emotions and not let them rule our actions. Let your wisdom always be our guide and not our hearts.
Lord, please show us anything that we have allowed ourselves to attach to that we should not have. Help us uproot it and shut the gate to it. Help us to not allow anyone into our inner circle and that shouldn’t be there. Help us not to bask in attention that we should not be basking in. It doesn’t matter if we are single or married, show us the importance of guarding our hearts.
If we are single, help us to keep our focus on you and cherish this season where our hearts can be fully yours. Help us patiently wait on your timing and your clear leading before we move forward in letting our heart get attached to another.
If we are married, I pray that you would help us guard our hearts and our marriages. Give us so many red flags if we cross any lines that would cause us to let down our guard and get emotionally attached to someone else. Show us what boundaries to put in place and give us the strength to always live within those boundaries, regardless of how good or innocent something feels.
Lord, we thank you that the Holy Spirit is here with us and helping us. Tune us into his warnings. Let us always walk so closely with him that it is so clear to know when we are lowering our guard.
In Jesus name, amen.
