September 6, 2022 - Luke 10:38-42
“As Jesus and the disciples continued on their way to Jerusalem, they came to a certain village where a woman named Martha welcomed him into her home. Her sister, Mary, sat at the Lord’s feet, listening to what he taught. But Martha was distracted by the big dinner she was preparing. She came to Jesus and said, “Lord, doesn’t it seem unfair to you that my sister just sits here while I do all the work? Tell her to come and help me.” But the Lord said to her, “My dear Martha, you are worried and upset over all these details! There is only one thing worth being concerned about. Mary has discovered it, and it will not be taken away from her.”” Luke 10:38-42 NLT
Lord, we thank you that you love to sit and fellowship with us. You don’t just tolerate it for our sake, but you desire our company all the time. There are times when sitting at your feet, like Mary, is where we should be. There are other times when there are tasks that we must complete. Lord, teach us how to bring you into those tasks. We want to invite you to help us with them; give us your insight, favor, and supernatural wisdom to get them done in the most efficient way. We want to learn to have an attitude of worship in all that we are doing. When we are doing mundane tasks that don’t require a lot of thinking, remind us to use that time to pray and worship instead of letting our mind idly wander or turn to worrying about other things in life. If we are praying instead of pondering over everything that might go wrong, our thoughts will not lead us to worrying. If we are worshiping instead of comparing our actions to others, then we will not struggle with jealousy. This is where we see Martha going wrong; she was focused on those things instead of being focused on you while she worked. Help us discover the treasure that Mary discovered and bring your presence into all that we do.
In Jesus name, amen.
