September 29, 2022 - 1 Corinthians 3:16-17
“Don’t you realize that all of you together are the temple of God and that the Spirit of God lives in you? God will destroy anyone who destroys this temple. For God’s temple is holy, and you are that temple.” 1 Corinthians 3:16-17 NLT
Lord, what an amazing truth. How is it possible that such a spectacular God would choose to make your home in us? We are not a worthy vessel, yet you choose us. Thank you so much. We read all about the temple that David dreamed of/designed and Solomon built. It was so extravagant and full of beauty and value. It is easy for us to look at ourselves and think that we don’t measure up. But that would be by the “ruler” of man not your “ruler”. You view us as the most valuable things. You dreamed us up and designed every detail of who we are. You made us just like you wanted, perfect for what you designed us to do. We are not lacking in your sight. Help us to begin to see ourselves through your eyes.
Help us to see ourselves as the beautifully adorned temple that you call your home. Help us to never be a part of tearing down or destroying your temple. Help us to live in a way that keeps your home in order and a place of honor for you. When we fail at that, move us to a place where it becomes our greatest mission to get things back in order as quickly as possible. We never want to learn to ignore the things that bring darkness and ugliness into your home. We want to keep your temple a holy place. Help us to always remember that we are your temple and the significance of what that really means. When we read about what people had to do to enter your temple before Christ came, it was such a complicated process for them. We praise you that through Christ it is much easier today, but we still need to keep coming to you and allowing you to purify us. Help us always remember the significance of being your temple.
In Jesus name, amen.
