September 22, 2024 - Genesis 18:27
“Abraham spoke up again and said, “I am just a man formed from earth’s dust and ashes but allow me to be so bold as to ask you, my Lord.”” Genesis 18:27 TPT
Lord, we see this amazing interaction between you and Abraham in Genesis 18. You told Abraham that you were going to destroy Sodom and Gomorrah because of their great sin. Abraham cries out to you and asks if you would save the city if there were 50 righteous people there. You tell him that you will spare the city if there are 50 righteous people. In this verse we see him coming back to you and asking if you would spare it for 45. We see him doing this four other times for 40, 30, 20, and 10. You agree each time.
Lord, I love this interaction. Abraham states in this verse that he is nothing and doesn’t deserve for you to listen to him, but he asks for your mercy to be extended to a people who do not deserve mercy. We see him asking repeatedly for less righteous people to be needed for you to show your mercy and you keep agreeing. Lord, we are so grateful for how you extend mercy to us when we definitely don’t deserve it. We are also grateful for how you listen to our prayers, and you answer. We see here how our prayers have the power to change situations.
Lord, give us a bold desire to cry out to you to extend mercy to the lost around us. Give us such an urgency to pray for your spirit to work in their lives and not assume that the situation won’t change. Our prayers can cause you to move, and situations can change. I wonder if Abraham had kept going and asked for just one to be found if you would have spared the city because of Lot’s righteousness. Lord, give us a perseverance in our prayer life to not stop before the breakthrough happens.
In Jesus name, amen
.
