October 8, 2024 - Ephesians‬ ‭4‬:‭26‬-‭27

“And don’t sin by letting anger control you. Don’t let the sun go down while you are still angry, for anger gives a foothold to the devil.” Ephesians 4:26-27 NLT

Lord, it is so easy for us to let our emotions control us. They can lead us to places we don’t want to go. They can also be so great at twisting situations and lying to us. They feel things from their perspective and make it seem like the truth. They don’t take in the greater picture, what the other people involved are dealing with, what you are doing, they just act on what they feel. They make what they feel the ground on which actions are built. But that ground isn’t solid or based in your truth. Our emotions are a beautiful blessing from you, especially if we learn how to use them and what their place is in our lives.

Lord, teach us how to keep our emotions in the place they should be in. Teach us how to recognize your truth and see situations beyond what our emotions are telling us. We ask this especially when we are dealing with emotions such as hurt or anger. Help us to work through those emotions with you. Help us not allow them to control us and dictate our actions. Help us to be quick to bring our emotions to you and allow you to teach us to have healthy emotions that are aligned with your truth. Help us learn to step back and see situations through truth and not the lenses of our emotions. Help us to never allow our emotions to give a foothold to the devil in our lives. Open our eyes to any places where we have allowed that to happen. Please bring healing and restore the situation. Help us to make those situations right today. We praise you for your ways and restoration.

In Jesus name, amen.
