October 5, 2024 - Numbers 22:32-34

““Why did you beat your donkey those three times?” the angel of the Lord demanded. “Look, I have come to block your way because you are stubbornly resisting me. Three times the donkey saw me and shied away; otherwise, I would certainly have killed you by now and spared the donkey.” Then Balaam confessed to the angel of the Lord, “I have sinned. I didn’t realize you were standing in the road to block my way. I will return home if you are against my going.”” Numbers 22:32-34 NLT

Lord, in this passage, we see Balaam’s donkey acting out of character, but Balaam still pressed forward in his plans. An angel of the Lord was trying to stop Balaam and the donkey was stopping but Balaam wasn’t. After 3 tries the angel allowed Balaam to see what was really happening. How often do you place roadblocks in front of us that we push through? Help us to be people that tune in to you, notice when things don’t seem right and stop to ask you what is really happening. We realize that the spiritual realm is the more “real” realm. The ways of our world are not the ways of your Kingdom. The ways of your Kingdom are eternal and are founded on the Truth. Your Truth is the foundation that everything is built on, but our world is fallen and broken.  The ways of our earth and often what we believe to be truth here on earth will one day crumble away. Open our eyes to understand your Truth and to understand the spiritual world that is beyond what our earth eyes can see.

Lord, we praise you that you have given us the Holy Spirit to walk with us and guide us. Holy Spirit, we ask that you would be our guide. Open our minds to understand your ways and help us see beyond the natural. Keep us from pushing forward into places you don’t want us to go. Grow in us a desire to press into more of you and learn how to follow your every leading.
