October 31, 2023 - Exodus 31:1-6
“Then the Lord said to Moses, “Look, I have specifically chosen Bezalel son of Uri, grandson of Hur, of the tribe of Judah. I have filled him with the Spirit of God, giving him great wisdom, ability, and expertise in all kinds of crafts. He is a master craftsman, expert in working with gold, silver, and bronze. He is skilled in engraving and mounting gemstones and in carving wood. He is a master at every craft! And I have personally appointed Oholiab son of Ahisamach, of the tribe of Dan, to be his assistant. Moreover, I have given special skill to all the gifted craftsmen so they can make all the things I have commanded you to make.” Exodus 31:1-6 NLT
Lord, so often when we read the stories in the Bible, we think of them as stories, and don’t think through the realities of being in that moment. As I read this story, I am again reminded of your love for us. You called each of these men by name. You tell us that you gave them talents, filled them with your spirit, and personally anointed them to do your work. Thank you that you know us each by name and are calling each of us to different roles.
Lord, we thank you that your calling isn’t just for those “spiritual” jobs like pastor, worship leader, missionary, etc. Not at all, you have a calling on each of us. Your calling is a way for us to glorify your name and contribute to your plan. You have designed each of us with talents and giftings. None of us were overlooked! Lord, open our eyes to those things. Show us how to use our giftings to bring you glory. Help us learn how to live our lives not for ourselves, but to commit our lives to fulfilling the plans you have for us.
We praise you for being the conductor over the orchestra that is telling your great story. We thank you that we get to be a musician under the best conductor in the greatest orchestra ever.
In Jesus name, amen.
