“If we deny him, he will deny us.” 2 Timothy 2:12b NLT
Lord, you are such an amazing God to serve. You love us wholeheartedly with the purest of love, even when we aren’t loving back to you. You are so patient with us, forgiving us again and again for the same sins. You are faithful to us, even when we are not faithful to you. You call us your own children and want to be our friend, even when we don’t deserve to be. You deserve the ultimate respect, all our worship, and lives fully surrendered to your every wish, for you are the Almighty, all-powerful God over everything. Nothing compares to your greatness. Your wisdom is incomparable. Your power is unrivaled. Your holiness is the purest of pure. You are untouchable in every way; yet you allow us to know you and come before you. You deserve for us to be your servants; yet you grant us our desires.
When we look at all the reasons that we really should live our lives fully dedicated to you, it doesn’t seem like it should be a hard decision. I wish that were the case. I feel like our flesh struggles daily to fully surrender. We yield to sin and selfishness, instead of to you. You ask us to do things that we for whatever reason don’t do. We constantly put our desires above yours. When we read this verse, we don’t want to think that we would ever deny you, but I think if we really looked at it, our actions might say otherwise. Lord, how often are we ashamed to draw a hard line for righteousness and stand strong for it in the face of major opposition? How often do we feel you calling us away to spend time with you, but we choose to do something else? How often do we choose our own ways and desires over yours? I believe all these things are ways that we deny you. Please forgive us and help us change our hearts and actions. We want to be fully devoted wholeheartedly to you and your ways.
In Jesus name, amen.
