October 20, 2024 - Philippians‬ ‭2‬:‭3‬-‭7

“Don’t be selfish; don’t try to impress others. Be humble, thinking of others as better than yourselves. Don’t look out only for your own interests, but take an interest in others, too. You must have the same attitude that Christ Jesus had. Though he was God, he did not think of equality with God as something to cling to. Instead, he gave up his divine privileges; he took the humble position of a slave and was born as a human being. When he appeared in human form,” Philippians 2:3-7 NLT

Lord, help us make this verse reality in our lives. It is so hard to not try to impress others or to not look out for our own interests. Being humble definitely does not come naturally to us. Being selfish and prideful just seems so natural to do without even thinking about it or recognizing them in our lives most of the time. Please open our eyes to these negative behaviors in us. Transform us to be more like you. We want to be willing to lay down our wants and desires to see you glorified. We want to walk in joyful obedience to anything you ask of us. We want to be willing to humble ourselves and put the needs of others over our own. We want to live for you and not put the wants or opinions of others above you.

Jesus, we praise you that you were willing to lay down way more than we can imagine to come to earth and live like a mere human. You faced so much persecution, primarily from those who should have been the most excited about you. Yet, you didn’t try to please or impress them. You lived humbly before them, walking in obedience to everything the Father asked of you. Oh, make us more like you. We want to put you above all else in our lives.

In Jesus name, amen.
