October 2, 2022 - Acts 2:42-47

“All the believers devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching, and to fellowship, and to sharing in meals…, and to prayer. A deep sense of awe came over them all, and the apostles performed many miraculous signs and wonders. And all the believers met together in one place and shared everything they had. They sold their property and possessions and shared the money with those in need. They worshiped together at the Temple each day, met in homes for the Lord’s Supper, and shared their meals with great joy and generosity…And each day the Lord added to their fellowship those who were being saved.” Acts 2:42-47 NLT

Lord, the early church in Acts was so passionate about you. They seem so radical in how they lived. They devoted themselves to your teachings and prayer. As they did that, you transformed them. You helped them walk in unity. You turned them into generous people who put others’ needs above their desires. They walked in great faith and saw you do signs and wonders through them. They found the time to prioritize worshipping together daily. Doing all these things made them stand out as different in their culture. That difference did attract opposition that cost some of them their lives, but it was also that difference that was appealing to many others who joined their numbers.

Lord, I don’t believe that you have changed. You want to work through us today just like you did through them. The difference can be found in us. We don’t hold the same devotion and passion for you that they shared. Their lives were arranged around you and your mission. Help us learn from them. Lord, we ask that you fill us with a deep sense of awe of you. Help us change our priorities and learn what it means to be devoted to you to the point that it makes the way we live look radically different. Send revival through us and grow your church like you did through them.
