October 15, 2022 - Acts 8:12, 26-28, 34-35
“But now the people believed Philip’s message of Good News concerning the Kingdom of God and the name of Jesus Christ. As a result, many men and women were baptized. As for Philip, an angel of the Lord said to him, “Go south down the desert road that runs from Jerusalem to Gaza.” So he started out, and he met the treasurer of Ethiopia, a eunuch of great authority under the Kandake, the queen of Ethiopia. The eunuch had gone to Jerusalem to worship, and he was now returning. Seated in his carriage, he was reading aloud from the book of the prophet Isaiah. The eunuch asked Philip, “Tell me, was the prophet talking about himself or someone else?” So beginning with this same Scripture, Philip told him the Good News about Jesus.” Acts 8:12, 26-28, 34-35 NLT
Lord, you see and know everyone who, like this eunuch from Ethiopia, is searching for truth. You send the lost clues to who you are, and long for them to come to know you. Yet, you have given us the task to make your name known. Knowing your heart for each person, I would guess that there is at least one Christian on the planet that you have called to specifically take the truth to each person seeking it out. For this eunuch you called Philip to go and share the answers he desired. But what if Philip didn’t go? Would this eunuch have found the Good News? People die every day who are searching for your truth.
Lord, it breaks my heart to think of how many people don’t answer your call. When you asked Philip to go, he had to leave behind good things with a lot of followers to head down a desert road alone. It probably seemed stupid to him to walk away from his ministry and into the desert alone. When you call us to something, even if it isn’t an easy task or we don’t understand, help us still say, “Yes.” Lord, we don’t want to see one person perish without knowing you because we didn’t obey.
In Jesus name, amen.
