November 8, 2022 - Proverbs 24:11-12
“Rescue those who are unjustly sentenced to die; save them as they stagger to their death. Don’t excuse yourself by saying, “Look, we didn’t know.” For God understands all hearts, and he sees you. He who guards your soul knows you knew. He will repay all people as their actions deserve.” Proverbs 24:11-12 NLT
Lord, as I read this verse, I feel such a wakeup call. It definitely calls us out. You have clearly called us to reach out to the lost - those that are sentenced to a death without knowing you. We see this mandate throughout scriptures. It is easy to excuse it away and say “that it isn’t our call. It’s the call of those who have been gifted as pastors, evangelists, or missionaries.” But, Lord, that excuse doesn’t stand. You have clearly given each of us this mission and, as Christians, it is our primary purpose that everything else should flow from.
Lord, we know that you have given each of us a role to reach the lost. If we have denied that role or never took the time to ask you what it was, we want to ask forgiveness. Forgive us for our selfishness. Forgive us for walking in fear and pride. Forgive us for ordering our lives around our own priorities instead of yours. We thank you for your forgiveness and ask that you would help us change. Show us how to get our priorities in every area of our life to line up with your priorities. We want to make sure that we can recognize this mission as a priority in our time, our talents, our energy, our prayers, and our finances. Show us how to reorder our life so that we have no excuses for why we didn’t do our all to reach the lost. If we have a family, show us how to not only prioritize our lives, but how to make this a priority as a family, as well as how to raise our children understanding the importance of this mission. Lord, if this is what touches your heart, then let it be the same for us.
In Jesus name, amen.
