November 4, 2022 - Psalms 107:23-32
“Some went off to sea in ships, plying the trade routes of the world. They, too, observed the LORD’s power in action, his impressive works on the deepest seas. He spoke, and the winds rose, stirring up the waves. Their ships were tossed to the heavens and plunged again to the depths; the sailors cringed in terror. They reeled and staggered like drunkards and were at their wits’ end. “LORD, help!” they cried in their trouble, and he saved them from their distress. He calmed the storm to a whisper and stilled the waves. What a blessing was that stillness as he brought them safely into harbor! Let them praise the LORD for his great love and for the wonderful things he has done for them. Let them exalt him publicly before the congregation and before the leaders of the nation.” Psalms 107:23-32 NLT
Lord, I love this passage. Even those out alone in the middle of the oceans can observe you and your power in action. When they are tossed by the seas and totally helpless to do anything about it, you step in and show your greatness and love. You bring them safely to the harbor. Lord, we praise you that the same is true for us. No matter what we face and how helpless we feel, you are with us. Even if we feel so alone and no one understands, we are not out of your sight. Just like you see all the sailors out at sea, you see each one of us. Help us remember to cry out to you when we are being tossed around by the storms. We praise you that you have the power to calm any storm we face. We praise you that even if you don’t calm the storm, you can calm us and carry us through it. We can have total peace even as we are being tossed around. What a testimony to those observing us in our storms. Let others be drawn to you because of the peace they witness in us. Let us exalt your name by the way we live our lives regardless of what we are going through.
