November 29, 2022 - Deuteronomy 6:4-9
“Listen, O Israel! The LORD is our God, the LORD alone. And you must love the LORD your God with all your heart, all your soul, and all your strength. And you must commit yourselves wholeheartedly to these commands that I am giving you today. Repeat them again and again to your children. Talk about them when you are at home and when you are on the road, when you are going to bed and when you are getting up. Tie them to your hands and wear them on your forehead as reminders. Write them on the doorposts of your house and on your gates.” Deuteronomy 6:4-9 NLT
Lord, we want to commit ourselves fully to your ways. When you gave this word to the Israelites, you had given them the 10 Commandments. You have given us so much more than that. We have the whole Bible - your written words to us. We praise you for all that we have access to in the Bible. We thank you for the instructions, insight, and knowledge it contains. Just like you instructed the Israelites to commit themselves wholeheartedly to your commands, we want to commit ourselves wholeheartedly to all that you tell us in your Word.
Lord, we want to explore your word with you and gain your understanding of what you have written. Teach us how to write your words on our hearts. Help us memorize them so we can pull them up and have the right verse at hand when we need it. Let your Word be something that we fall in love with. Let it always be on our mind and something we meditate on, day and night. We don’t just want the Bible to be something we think about on Sundays, or even just something that we read once a day and then don’t think about the rest of the day. Help us incorporate it into all we do. Show us how to be intentional to teach it to our children from an early age - not just in word but let them see it in action in how we live and how we teach them to live.
In Jesus name, amen.
