November 26, 2022 - 1 Corinthians 12:12-13
“For just as the body is one and has many members, and all the members of the body, though many, are one body, so it is with Christ. For in one Spirit we were all baptized into one body—Jews or Greeks, slaves or free—and all were made to drink of one Spirit.” 1 Corinthians 12:12-13 NLT
Lord, we thank you that with you we can have unity both with you and with your church. We praise you for your spirit who works in us and helps us accomplish unity. We ask that you give us a greater understanding of what it means to be one body with the rest of your church. We praise you that you made us all to be one, no one is to be excluded. Show each of us what our role is in each season that you have us in. Teach us how to be the most effective in the role we have been placed in. Help us encourage others in their roles. We want to learn to focus on being what we are called to be and not trying to be other parts of the body that we are not called to be. We also want to learn to not be jealous of different body parts that we think have a better job. Each body part plays an important role and is needed. Please forgive us for any jealousy that we have had. We can’t have unity where there is jealousy, for jealousy will destroy unity.
Holy Spirit, please come and do your work in us. I see you as the oil, the anointing oil, that allows the parts to work together. Just like oil allows the metals to work together without causing damage, you help us to work together without harming one another. We just need to be spending time in your presence so that we are covered in your oil. We don’t want to run dry. Remind us to drink of you in throughout our day. Call to us when we need a fresh coating of your oil. We also pray for you to work on smoothing out our rough edges that also make unity with others hard. We want to do all that we can do to become unified through you.
In Jesus name, amen.
