November 2, 2023 - Exodus 4:2-5
“Then the Lord asked him, “What is that in your hand?” “A shepherd’s staff,” Moses replied. “Throw it down on the ground,” the Lord told him. So Moses threw down the staff, and it turned into a snake! Moses jumped back. Then the Lord told him, “Reach out and grab its tail.” So Moses reached out and grabbed it, and it turned back into a shepherd’s staff in his hand. “Perform this sign,” the Lord told him. “Then they will believe that the Lord, the God of their ancestors—the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob—really has appeared to you.”” Exodus 4:2-5 NLT
Lord, I love that you can do anything through us regardless of how inadequate we feel. You chose Moses to deliver a nation from slavery even though he stuttered, didn’t feel like he fit in with his people, and had murdered someone. Thank you that you don’t wait for us to get our lives in order or need us to be “presentable” by our society standards to use us. You just want us to be willing to walk in obedience.
I also love that we don’t need to have certain things to qualify. You asked Moses, “What is in your hand?” He was holding a staff, basically a stick. But he walked in obedience with his “stick”, and you turned that stick into a powerful weapon. Lord, I thank you that you always prepare us and give us what we need. It may feel like we are inadequate, but with you, that is not the case. We only need to trust you to do it and not give excuses for why we can’t.
We say, “Yes, Lord, yes!” to whatever you are asking of us. We give you permission to use whatever you have placed in our hands. We trust that you can do the impossible as we walk in obedience.
In Jesus name, amen.
