May 5, 2022 - Psalms 91:1,4,7
“Those who live in the shelter of the Most High will find rest in the shadow of the Almighty. He will cover you with his feathers. He will shelter you with his wings. His faithful promises are your armor and protection. Though a thousand fall at your side, though ten thousand are dying around you, these evils will not touch you.” Psalms 91:1,4,7 NLT
Lord, we thank you so much for how you shelter us. You are our only truly safe place. Regardless of how much we want to or think we can control our lives, we simply can’t. Help us learn how to fully surrender control of our lives over to you. I think that the key to doing that lies in verse 1. We must learn to live in your shelter and find rest in your shadow, under your wings. That is right next to you. Up close and personal. When we learn to live there, we will get to know you intimately. We will learn to trust you. We will learn to truly rest no matter what we are facing. When we fully trust you, we don’t find the need to control things ourselves. Help us grow into seeing the evidence of that in our lives.
Lord, we thank you for how uncommon your place of refuge is in our world today. If we can learn to live there in peace and rest even in the unknown of the crazy storms of life, what an amazing example we will be to those around us. That kind of peace is something the world longs for and it will draw others to you. Lord, we love the promise of verse 7, that when we live in your refuge evil will not touch us. What a promise! Though others will fall all around us, you will hold us up and be our protection. Lord, we see way to many brothers and sisters fall every day, because they are not living in this place with you. Living in your secret refuge isn’t easy, but the rewards that come from living there way outweigh the costs. Lord, help us pursue your secret place with all that we are and above all else.
In Jesus name, amen.
