May 31, 2024 - Matthew 15:7-9
“You hypocrites! Isaiah was right when he prophesied about you, for he wrote, ‘These people honor me with their lips, but their hearts are far from me. Their worship is a farce, for they teach man-made ideas as commands from God.’” Matthew 15:7-9 NLT
Lord, when we read this verse, it breaks our hearts thinking about only honoring you with our lips and not our hearts. But I am sure we walk in this even more than we realize. Forgive us. Open our eyes and give us a disgust of allowing it in our lives. We don’t want to be labeled as a hypocrite, but to be someone who authentically lives out of love for you. Help our hearts be fully sold out on loving you. Show us any pride in our lives that has us preforming our relationship instead of truly living it out. Help us to dive deep into your Word so we can understand how to live in your ways. Help us be humble and willing to quickly admit when we mess up and do all we can to make it right. We want to kill the pride in us that tells us to keep up fronts that make us look like perfect Christians. We won’t draw people closer to you like that. We want to walk in all you have for us and that only comes with a beautiful authentic relationship with you. Help us to not be afraid of things looking messy. I know you prefer our authentic mess than something that looks perfect but is not real. Grow your love within us Lord and teach us how to truly love you. We want everything in our lives to bring you glory and honor.
In Jesus name, amen.
