“Be not deceived: Evil companionships corrupt good morals.” 1 Corinthians 15:33 ASV
Lord, we thank you for the wisdom and warnings that you give us in the Bible. What a valuable treasure it is to us. Please teach us how to correctly apply this warning to our lives. Holy Spirit, we thank you for walking with us and helping us discern what is happening around us. We welcome more of you and your influence into our lives. Help us recognize lies and not be deceived. When things don’t line up with your ways and plans, make that so clear to us. If we start moving in a direction or our beliefs start to shift from your truth, give us such a loud warning. Don’t let us buy into it. Especially as our society tries to push further and further from your absolute truth, we don’t want to sway even a millimeter away from your truth. Please help us guard ourselves from the deception of the enemy.
Lord, we also ask that you give us wisdom for the people in our lives. We don’t want to isolate ourselves in just a Christian bubble of friends. That is definitely not your way. You left the 99 to reach the one. You were so purposeful on reaching out and befriending the lost. Even those you kept closest to you were learning and didn’t always get things right all the time. Lord, give us wisdom on what place to allow people to have in our lives, particularly those who have an influence into our lives. If they are corrupting our good morals, show us what we need to do to change that. Do we need to break off that relationship or are their other measures we can put in place so we can guard ourselves from straying from your truth? Give us such wisdom on what the correct steps are and then the courage to walk them out. Help us to be the thermostat that sets the temperature (or culture) around us and not the thermometer that changes to the atmosphere around us.
In Jesus name, amen.
