“For sin shall not have dominion over you, for you are not under law but under grace.”
Romans 6:14 NKJV
Lord, we are so grateful for your grace. It has totally changed everything. Thanks for your death that allows you to offer it to us. It is a gift that we can’t put a price on. We praise you for the freedom that it gives us.
Lord, teach us how to live in your grace. When we mess up, help us be quick to bring our sin to you for forgiveness, and then help us forgive ourselves like you have forgiven us. Teach us how to then move on in the freedom that grace gives us. Help us not only do this with ourselves, but with others too. Teach us how to offer grace to others the way you offer it to us. Help us not to live like the Pharisees, all caught up in living under the law, but forsaking the lawgiver. We want to be quick to offer grace to ourselves and others. But, Lord, teach us how to balance walking in grace, and not using grace as an excuse as to sin. We want to walk in the freedom grace gives, but still pressing forward toward living a life of holiness.
Lord, also teach us how to balance grace and discipleship. Just because you offer grace to us doesn’t mean that there are no consequences for our sin or discipline when we need it. When needed, you discipline us through grace instead of the law. Grace allows you to change the discipline to match exactly what each person needs according to their heart and the situation. We praise you because it isn’t still under a blanket of the law where the punishment is always the same regardless of the situation. When we must discipline others, help us tune into you to get your insight, so we can understand fully. Only you can see the heart attitude, the full situation, and the history. Help us not be so quick to just lay down the law, but quick to extend grace. Make us more like you Jesus!
In Jesus name, amen.
