May 12, 2024 - James 1:22-24
“But don’t just listen to God’s word. You must do what it says. Otherwise, you are only fooling yourselves. For if you listen to the word and don’t obey, it is like glancing at your face in a mirror. You see yourself, walk away, and forget what you look like.” James 1:22-24 NLT
Lord, we don’t want to be the fool who glances in the mirror and forgets what we look like. There is no point in that. Guard us from doing that with your Word. It can be so easy to just read to read. Or to get so used to hearing the stories that we skim over them and don’t really digest them. That isn’t what we want. Stir in us a greater desire to go deeper in your Word. It is truly an amazing gift to us. It is your Word to us. A living thing that will speak directly to us and lead us through our life, if we take the time to really listen to it.
Lord, if we start skimming over, please convict us. We welcome that. Help us to never see it as another book, but to value it for what it is. We want to take in all the treasures that your Word has for us. Help us learn to value what you have written for us. Help us absorb it like a dry sponge until we are saturated. Help us apply it and walk in obedience to all it says. We want to be transformed by its wisdom and power. Thank you so much for giving us the gift of your Word. We are so grateful!
In Jesus name, amen.
