May 1, 2022 - Zechariah 2:4-5

“and said to him: “Run, tell that young man, ‘Jerusalem will be a city without walls because of the great number of people and animals in it. And I myself will be a wall of fire around it,’ declares the Lord, ‘and I will be its glory within.’” Zechariah 2:4-5 NIV

Lord, we thank you so much that you are our defender. You will watch over us better than any manmade security. In the days of this passage a city’s main defense was its city walls. That is where the people living within it found their security. Lord, how many places do we look to find security that can never really give it? Having security is one of those basic necessities in life. We will always search it out and long to have it when it is missing in our lives. We were made to have you filling that place and nothing else we try to make our security will ever fulfill that need in us. We will always be let down by other humans, manmade securities, or the “walls” we put up to protect ourselves. Show us the ways that we are not fully trusting in you to be our security. Show us the places we have sought out security from other places where it should be you. Forgive us of this and teach us how to hand those areas over to you to defend. Help us learn to trust you more and leave those things in your hands.

Be the wall of fire around our lives that keeps us safe. We invite you to fully be our defender and give you all authority to do that in our lives. We praise you that you are the ultimate warrior, and we are your most prized possessions. You fight for us. You will never forget us or overlook us. You never miss a thing – even the smallest details – in our lives. We praise you that we can always trust you to fully be the source of our security. We find our confidence in you. We worship you for being a wall of fire around us. We praise you for your amazing love for us. You are so worthy!

In Jesus name, amen.
