March 9, 2024 - Genesis 18:10-15

“Then one of them said, “I will return to you about this time next year, and your wife, Sarah, will have a son!” Sarah was listening to this conversation from the tent. Abraham and Sarah were both very old by this time, and Sarah was long past the age of having children. So she laughed silently to herself and said, “How could a worn-out woman like me enjoy such pleasure, especially when my master—my husband—is also so old?” Then the Lord said to Abraham, “Why did Sarah laugh? Why did she say, ‘Can an old woman like me have a baby?’ Is anything too hard for the Lord? I will return about this time next year, and Sarah will have a son.” Sarah was afraid, so she denied it, saying, “I didn’t laugh.” But the Lord said, “No, you did laugh.”” Genesis 18:10-15 NLT

Lord, it is easy to read this story and think of course you can fulfill your promise to Sarah, you are God after all, you can do anything you want. But if we were in Sarah’s place, how quick to believe it would we be? How many times in our lives have we laughed at the thought of you using us to do the impossible? How many times do we read stories in the Bible and think that you can do amazing things for the people in the Bible but doubt you will ever do these amazing things for us? Sarah’s laugh was a sign of her unbelief. How many times a day do we walk in that same unbelief? We don’t want to try and deny it like Sarah. You see the doubt that we don’t even recognize in ourselves. You see the lies that we have bought into and that have become such a part of our belief patterns that we don’t even see it as unbelief.

Lord, forgive us. Help us change. Uproot the lies that we are believing. Break off the chains of unbelief that hold us back. Set us free and increase our faith to believe you for anything. We declare that nothing is impossible for you to do in, through, or for us.

In Jesus name, amen.
