March 27, 2024 - Ephesians 5:2

“Mostly what God does is love you. Keep company with him and learn a life of love. Observe how Christ loved us. His love was not cautious but extravagant. He didn’t love in order to get something from us but to give everything of himself to us. Love like that.” Ephesians 5:2 MSG

 

Lord, we are so grateful for your astounding love. The way the Message Bible words this verse is beautiful. It is true that you don’t love cautiously. You have every reason to be cautious with us. We are guaranteed to hurt you. We will never love you back the way that you love us. We will have days when we get busy and don’t think of you at all. We will choose sin over you knowing that it will cause you pain. Yet, in spite of knowing that we will do all these things and more, you still choose to love us extravagantly. Lord, you are so amazing to us. You don’t love us expecting to get anything back from us. How amazing. It is really an honor to call you our Lord.

 

Lord, help us learn to love like you do. When we press into you and spend time with you it is amazing how naturally we begin to become more like you. Increase in us our desire to keep company with you. Give us a longing to spend time in your presence. Show us even in the busy days how to invite you into what we are doing.  We don’t want to just spend a few minutes each morning with you, but make our whole day revolve around you and be spent with you. As we do that, allow our hearts to be transformed by you. Make us more like you. Help us learn to love you to the point that we can’t imagine not including you in every aspect of our day. As our love for you increases, help our desire to walk in selfishness and sin shrink. Help us learn to see others through your eyes and love them with your love. Make us more like you!
