“He told the people, "Be careful to guard yourselves from every kind of greed. Life is not about having a lot of material possessions."” Luke 12:15 GW
Lord, there is so much in this life that we need to guard ourselves against, including greed. Keeping our guard up against the schemes of the enemy needs to be a priority in our lives. Teach of how to keep a spiritual inventory of our lives and make sure that we are not allowing in any sinful behaviors. We don’t want any sin to separate us from you or hinder us in our growth in you. Help us learn to live pure and holy lives. When we mess up, help us be quick to see it and run to repent. We never want to be uncertain of our place with you but know that we are living righteously before you.
Lord, we come before you today and ask that you would open our eyes to anything that doesn’t line up to your ways. Lord, are we being faithful in all that we do? Are we running after you as hard as we can, or have we allowed any passivity into our walk with you? Are we obeying everything you ask of us? Have we granted forgiveness where it is needed? Is all the talk that is coming out of our mouth glorifying you? Are any of our thoughts going places they should not be going? Are we living in selfishness and pride in any area? Have we allowed envy to live in our lives? Are we putting our desires above your desires? And what about the greed mentioned in this verse? Are we prioritizing material things above spiritual things? We invite you to come and show us where things in our lives aren’t where you want them to be.
Lord, we want to live lives that are marked by purity. We don’t just want those on the outside to see us as good Christians, but we want you to see our hearts and our thoughts and still see us as pure. Help us remember to daily do a spiritual inventory to make sure everything is as it should be.
In Jesus name, amen.
