March 23, 2022 - Exodus 33:18-23
“Then Moses said, “Now show me your glory.” And the Lord said, “I will cause all my goodness to pass in front of you, and I will proclaim my name, the Lord, in your presence... But,” he said, “you cannot see my face, for no one may see me and live.” Then the Lord said, “There is a place near me where you may stand on a rock. When my glory passes by, I will put you in a cleft in the rock and cover you with my hand until I have passed by. Then I will remove my hand and you will see my back; but my face must not be seen.”” Exodus 33:18-23 NIV
Lord, today we cry out like Moses and ask that you would show us your glory. We want to see you. Give us a heart after you like Moses had. Grow our relationship deeper with you. We want to walk with you. We want to know you more.
Lord, I look at the instructions that you gave Moses here in this passage and it shows us just how glorious you are. It would overwhelm our system to the point of death to look on your face. You are so glorious, holy, and divine that we, in this earthly body, can’t even look upon you. I thank you for this God. What an honor to serve a God that is so much more than we can handle.
The other thing that I see in this passage is how important it was for Moses to obey you at a higher level as he got closer to you. This obedience wasn’t just a matter of obeying in the “right and wrong”, but it was down to the little details of all that you say. If he would have stepped out from behind the rock, he would have died. To get close to you like Moses, we must be living in a place of obeying everything you say to us. Lord, help us grow to this point in our walk with you. Help us recognize your voice and be so quick to listen and obey. We want to say to you, “Show me your glory.” and be in a place that you could do just that.
In Jesus name, amen.
