March 21, 2022 - James 1:22
“But don’t just listen to God’s word. You must do what it says. Otherwise, you are only fooling yourselves.” James 1:22 NLT
Lord, we want to be followers of you who hear what you say and respond with radical obedience. We hear and immediately act. We not only want to obey, but we want to fully obey. We want to not just do the minimal amount to fulfill your word, but we want to pursue full, radical, unrestrained obedience. Lord, I have some friends who taught their kids that delayed obedience is disobedience. Help us to adopt that mentality into our walk with you. We want to quickly walk out what you ask. We don’t want to mull it over, debate it, talk ourselves into it, and eventually get around to it when it becomes more convenient or not as scary. No, Lord, we want to have such trust in you that we walk in obedience to exactly what you say when you ask it of us.
Lord, we recognize the authority, wisdom, and love for us that you have. You are the God over all, who are we to ever say no to a command of yours? You know more than us. You understand the full picture of what is going on and see where things are going. Why would we question if what you say is better than what we think is best? Lord, you love us more than we can comprehend and always want what is best for us. We can trust you completely. There is no reason for us to question if what you tell us is safe.
Lord, we thank you that you take an interest in our lives. We thank you that you give us direction and instructions on how to live. We thank you that you speak to us every day. Help us to tune in to your words. We praise you for free will and the opportunity to choose to listen and obey. Help us to listen and live a lifestyle of immediate, radical obedience to all that you ask of us. We say, “Yes!”
In Jesus name, amen.
