“It’s not important who does the planting, or who does the watering. What’s important is that God makes the seed grow.” 1 Corinthians 3:7 NLT
Lord, what a valuable lesson to learn. We want to be a part of planting a vast garden for you. We want to see a great harvest of new Christians being produced daily. You are worthy of that, Lord. We want to see you receive the reward of the suffering that you took on to bring our redemption. We want to be gardeners who work hard to bring you the reward of a great harvest! As we do that, help us to put this verse into practice. Help us realize that it doesn’t matter who does what in the gardening process. Some of us will prepare the ground and never see the fruit of our work. Others will plant a seed and never know if it takes root and grows. Some of us will have the pleasure of tending to and watering the plants that others have prepared and planted. Others will get to share in the joy of bringing in the harvest once it is ready to be picked. Help us realize that all these steps in the process are as important as the harvesting. Without any of these steps the harvest isn’t possible.
Lord, we also realize that it is you that makes the seed grow. We can do everything right and seeds may still wither and die. We don’t need to feel like we have failed when this happens. We also can’t become prideful if we do have the privilege of harvesting a soul into your kingdom. We can rejoice and praise you for the work that you have done in their souls. We also want to make sure that we are taking the time to pray that you do make the seeds that we are gardening grow. Lord, we don’t want to garden in vain, but we want to pray that you would work in people’s hearts and cause them to grow to the point of being ready for harvest. We pray that you would make us a part of bringing in a very fruitful harvest for your glory.
In Jesus name, amen.
