March 16, 2025 - Leviticus 19:9-10
“When you harvest the crops of your land, do not harvest the grain along the edges of your fields, and do not pick up what the harvesters drop. It is the same with your grape crop—do not strip every last bunch of grapes from the vines, and do not pick up the grapes that fall to the ground. Leave them for the poor and the foreigners living among you. I am the Lord your God.” Leviticus 19:9-10 NLT
Lord, you have such a heart for the poor and outcasts. They are never overlooked with you. Here as you are giving instructions to the Israelites on how you want them to live, you specifically tell them to provide for the poor. They are not to harvest all their crops. You tell them to leave some for the poor and the foreigners to be provided for. We see you specifically making concessions for them and honoring them throughout the whole Bible. Lord, give us your heart for those in our society that are considered outcasts. Let us always set aside some of what we have as well. Show us what you are calling us to give out of our time, talent, and/or treasure to help others. Never let us be so wrapped up in our own needs that we don’t see the needs of others as well. No matter what we are facing there is someone worse off than us. People who are often overlooked might need even more than money, someone to take the time to truly see them and care for them. Open our eyes to notice the people around us and allow us to see them the way you see them. Lead us in getting out of our comfort zones and walking in obedience. Lord, make us more like you and help us love the way you love.
In Jesus name, amen.
