“Rebellion is as sinful as witchcraft, and stubbornness as bad as worshiping idols. So because you have rejected the command of the Lord, he has rejected you as king.”” 1 Samuel 15:23 NLT
Lord, as we said in yesterday’s prayer, we want to be followers of you that always choose obedience to you and your ways. We don’t want to walk in rebellion. We thank you for how clear you make things for us. You say things to us like, “if we hate out brother, it is a murder.” Lord, this can seem a bit much, but I like how clear and serious it makes the state of our heart. We cannot allow our heart to drift from your ways. You judge the heart more than the outward actions. It is out of the heart that our outward actions flow.
Lord, if we can get our heart right with you, doing good will naturally flow out of us. When we fall deeply in love with you, walking in obedience to all you ask isn’t a hard task, but it will flow out of us naturally. This is what we want. Draw us closer to you. Teach us how to walk in a more intimate relationship with you God. Let our love for your just overflow out of us. Let our heart always long for more of you. Help us keep our hearts soft, so that stubbornness to disobey you never has a place in us.
Lord, open our eyes to any place in our lives where we are walking in rebellion to you and your ways. Open our eyes to any place where we are being stubborn toward you. We never want to be doing anything that is like witchcraft or worshiping idols. Please forgive us for any of these places. If these things are in us, help us change this behavior. We never want to reject your ways. You are the Almighty God. You may extend love to us, but that doesn’t mean that you don’t deserve our reverence and obedience. We want to walk in awe and Fear of the Lord. We want every area of our life inside and outside to bring you glory!
In Jesus name, amen.
