March 10, 2023 - Joshua 4:5-7
“He told them, “Go into the middle of the Jordan, in front of the Ark of the Lord your God. Each of you must pick up one stone and carry it out on your shoulder—twelve stones in all, one for each of the twelve tribes of Israel. We will use these stones to build a memorial. In the future your children will ask you, ‘What do these stones mean?’ Then you can tell them, ‘They remind us that the Jordan River stopped flowing when the Ark of the Lord’s Covenant went across.’ These stones will stand as a memorial among the people of Israel forever.”” Joshua 4:5-7 NLT
Lord, you are wise to have the Israelites build a memorial to always remember what you did for them when they crossed the Jordan. I am amazed at how easy it is to forget the amazing miracles that you have done for us. Even if the miracle feels huge at the moment, within a few months it is often forgotten. Lord, forgive us for not doing more to remember all that you have done. By remembering, we not only can continue to praise you for your goodness, but it will continue to build our faith. As we come to the next hurdle in life for which we need to exercise our faith, it is much easier when we can easily remember what you have already done for us.
Show us how we are to build memorials. Maybe we write them down somewhere specific that we can easily review when we need to boost our faith. Give us an idea that will work for us specifically. Also, help us remember to share with others the battles you have won for us. As we testify it locks them in our memories, as well as boosts other people’s faith. You are worthy to receive the glory for all the amazing things you do for us. Let us take advantage of every opportunity to share your faithfulness. Let us proclaim your stories from the mountain tops, brightly shining your light and drawing those lost in the dark to you.
In Jesus name, amen.
