March 1, 2024 - John 21:5-6
“He [Jesus] called out to them, saying, “Hey guys! Did you catch any fish?” “Not a thing,” they replied. Jesus shouted to them, “Throw your net over the starboard side, and you’ll catch some!” And so they did as he said, and they caught so many fish they couldn’t even pull in the net!” John 21:5-6 TPT
Lord, we thank you for your directions and your desire to bless us. You are such a good God to us. We praise you for being a God with a detailed plan. You know exactly what we need to do to be blessed. We praise you that you will lead us like you led them.
Jesus, two things that stand out to me when I read this story are: the guys had been fishing all night and caught nothing, but then you show up and so does the blessing. We don’t want to do things on our own. We want to invite you into all that we do, so your blessing will be over it. Teach us how to live every aspect of our lives with you in the middle of all we do.
The second thing is that it was when they listened to your instruction and walked in obedience, even when it didn’t make sense, the blessing came. Lord, we invite you to give us detailed directions, then help us to walk in obedience even if it doesn’t make sense. I am sure they were thinking that we have been out here all night, why would trying one more time make a difference? But regardless of what we think in the natural, the truth is that listening to you will always make a difference in our lives. Holy Spirit, help us learn to hear and obey all that you ask of us.
Today, we ask that you show us how to “throw the net over the starboard side of the boat and haul in” the blessings you have for us! Lord, we praise you for it. You are such an awesome God and serving you is so remarkable!
