June 21, 2022 - Psalms 133:1-3

“How good and pleasant it is when God’s people live together in unity! It is like precious oil poured on the head, running down on the beard, running down on Aaron’s beard, down on the collar of his robe. It is as if the dew of Hermon were falling on Mount Zion. For there the Lord bestows his blessing, even life forevermore.” Psalms 133:1-3 NIV

Lord, it might be a little hard for those of us who don’t understand Jewish culture or who have never seen Mount Hermon or Mount Zion to really grasp the pictures that David is painting in this Psalm. Help us understand how you see the beauty of your people living together in unity. The oil running down Aaron’s beard represents something so sacred and precious. Leviticus 8:12 (NLT) says, “Then he (Moses) poured some of the anointing oil on Aaron’s head, anointing him and making him holy for his work.” Lord, when we learn to live in unity you see it as something sacred and holy.

When dew falls it brings refreshment and life. Out of it come the blessings of the ground being fruitful. In a sense, the dew flows down over the mountain “anointing” it. It runs down making the land fertile to produce crops. Dew is gentle; it doesn’t come down with a force that can destroy. It is refreshing and soft. It allows the ground to soak it in peacefully.

Lord, we see both the anointing oil and the dew as coming from you and bringing life. They are gentle and sacred. Teach us to live our lives in a way that brings unity. Teach us to be quick to forgive. Open our eyes to any place in our lives that is causing disunity. Forgive us and help us make it right. Let us be a refreshing and gentle dew over the lives of our brothers and sisters. Help us live a sacred life and be an oil that runs down over relationships, inspiring others to live in your ways. Lord, we praise you for the blessing that brings life forevermore!

In Jesus name, amen.
