June 16, 2023 - Exodus 14:13-16
“Moses answered the people, “Do not be afraid. Stand firm and you will see the deliverance the Lord will bring you today. The Egyptians you see today you will never see again. The Lord will fight for you; you need only to be still.” Then the Lord said to Moses, “Why are you crying out to me? Tell the Israelites to move on. Raise your staff and stretch out your hand over the sea to divide the water so that the Israelites can go through the sea on dry ground.” Exodus 14:13-16 NIV
Lord, help us be people whose trust is secure in you. No matter what impossible situations we face, help us never doubt you. In this passage, the Israelites were led by you out of Egypt and up to a huge sea. All they can see is an army behind them and a sea in front of them. How many times in life do we find ourselves in impossible situations even while following your directions? Situations that can leave us doubting you and your leading. But so often you use these situations to teach us to rely fully on you. Also, there is no way we can get the glory in these situations because you are the only reason we succeed. It grows our faith and trust in you and shows your glory to everyone around.
Lord, we also ask for you to help us be willing to use whatever is in our hand. Even if it seems like just a powerless stick, with you it can be a powerful object that brings great change. Show us what “mundane” things that we have that you want to use. Don’t allow us to excuse away all the reasons it won’t work. With you such a small act of obedience can create such a miraculous outcome. Don’t let us doubt that you will use us and do impossible things through us. We commit to following you anywhere and trusting you no matter what our situation looks like.
