“As he approached Jerusalem and saw the city, he wept over it” Luke 19:41 NIV
Lord, we thank you that you are a God that has emotions and feels them deeply. Show us how our actions affect your emotions. We never want to purposely choose to do things that cause you pain. Open our eyes, our hearts, and our emotions to understand more of what you are feeling. When we look at the world around us, let us feel your joy and excitement or your grief and pain. We want to understand you and how you love us more. We want to learn to see through your eyes and respond how you respond. Let sin grieve our spirits like it does yours. Let us understand how our obedience brings joy to your heart. Let us feel your love and learn how to love you and others with that same kind of love.
Lord, you are the creator of emotions, and you gave them to us for a reason. We know our emotions are from you, but we also recognize that our emotions can lead us astray. Give us your wisdom and guidance on how to make sure if our emotions do not reflect the truth of a situation, that we don’t allow them to lead us into believing a non-truth. We want to learn to feel and use our emotions like you designed us to and not allow our emotions to rule us.
Lord, we also thank you that you are with us in whatever we are feeling. You are sitting right there, present with us. You celebrate with us when we are feeling celebratory. You feel our grief when we are grieving. Teach us how to allow you to suffer with us if that is where we are. You want us to come to you and honestly tell you how we are feeling. You will help us process through our feelings and help us know how to work through them if needed. You will teach us how to use our emotions to be stronger people and not allow our emotions to rule our lives. Thank you for making us in your image with emotions and feelings.
In Jesus name, amen.
