June 11, 2022 - Exodus 34:14
“You must worship no other gods, for the Lord, whose very name is Jealous, is a God who is jealous about his relationship with you.” Exodus 34:14 NLT
Lord, it breaks our hearts to think about doing anything that would upset you or make you jealous. We know that when you get jealous it isn’t unfounded. It would be because we are making other things more important than you. That isn’t our heart. We want earnestly to have you in the number one place in our lives, yet it frequently isn’t the way we live. What our heart wants to do so often isn’t our reality. Please help us align our desires with our actions. Holy Spirit, we ask that you prompt us when things are getting out of order. If we don’t listen, please prompt us harder. We want you to be our top priority.
I heard someone ask me recently what I would sell Jesus for? Of course, my immediate response was nothing, but unfortunately that isn’t the truth. How often does TV, electronic games, internet, socializing, work, or so many other things press into the time that should be yours? Jesus, teach us how to balance all those things correctly and still have quality time for you. We don’t want to “sell” you for something that holds no real value in the face of eternity. You are our one true and most important love. Help us live life in a manner that shows that in action and not just in words.
Teach us to have the same intensity in our relationship with you that you have for us. Grow our love for you. Let us experience it to the point that we get addicted and can’t live without you. Like an addict that will stop at nothing to get a fix, let us stop at nothing to find ways to spend time with you. Be the first thing on our minds in the morning and the last when we go to sleep. Show us how to bring you into everything that we do in between. Help us always put you in our number one place.
