July 6, 2022 - 2 Peter 3:8-9
“But you must not forget this one thing, dear friends: A day is like a thousand years to the Lord, and a thousand years is like a day. The Lord isn’t really being slow about his promise, as some people think. No, he is being patient for your sake. He does not want anyone to be destroyed, but wants everyone to repent.” 2 Peter 3:8-9 NLT
Lord, it is so hard for us to wrap our minds around the fact that you are fully outside of time. Everything that we know is within the realm of time. We can understand it in concept, but the realities of it are hard to fathom. But we are so grateful that you are not limited by the realm of time. Help us begin to look at our time here on earth with an eternal mindset. Our life here is but a blip in light of eternity. If a day is like a thousand years to you, even if we live to be 100 years old, our whole lives are just over 2 hours to you, and that is comparing it to 1000 years, not eternity. That puts it into a little bit of perspective. I think of all the things that I focus on and fret over that don’t matter at all in the light of eternity. Please forgive us. Help us change our mindset and set our priorities to match your priorities. Open our eyes to the things that really matter and will last. We have such a short time to spread your name to those that don’t know you. We don’t want anyone to spend eternity in hell because we didn’t do all that we could to make sure they had every opportunity to choose to follow you.
Lord, we also ask that when we look to you, we would do so with an eternal mindset. Sometimes when we don’t feel you or hear you speak to us in a few days or weeks, we feel forgotten. When you don’t answer soon enough for us, help us have patience. Again, even if we wait years for prayers to be answered, it’s nothing compared to eternity. Help us always to have patience and trust in you and your timing.
In Jesus name, amen.
