July 26, 2022 - Deuteronomy 30:19-20
“This day I call the heavens and the earth as witnesses against you that I have set before you life and death, blessings and curses. Now choose life, so that you and your children may live and that you may love the Lord your God, listen to his voice, and hold fast to him. For the Lord is your life, and he will give you many years in the land he swore to give to your fathers, Abraham, Isaac and Jacob.” Deuteronomy 30:19-20 NIV
Lord, we want to choose life. When we read the promises in these verses, who wouldn’t choose life and blessing? We would be crazy to say we choose death and curses. But, Lord, it isn’t so easy, is it? It is a minute-by-minute decision. Sometimes it’s a second-by-second decision. We make so many little decisions throughout the day that lead us one way or the other and we don’t think about the decision that we are really making. It is that choice to get out of bed and spend time with you and not keep hitting snooze. It is the decision to turn off the computer/tv or put down the phone and make you our priority. It’s the decision to quickly forgive when the small things happen and not keep harboring them until they turn into a great big mess of bitterness. It’s a million small decisions that we make every day, to draw closer to you or push away. Things that we don’t even think are significant at the moment can all add up quickly and turn us in a direction we never intended to go. Tiny compromises made unintentionally can so quickly lead us astray.
Lord, forgive us for the times that we don’t choose your way of life. Open our eyes to the negative decisions we are making that maybe we don’t even realize the outcome. Help us desire to make appropriate changes as needed. Help us to always listen to your leading and hold fast to you in all we do. Help us to keep you as our top priority and always choose your ways of life.
In Jesus name, amen.
