““You have condemned yourself,” David said, “for you yourself confessed that you killed the Lord’s anointed one.”” 2 Samuel 1:16 NLT
Lord, when we read about David it is amazing how much he honored Saul as your anointed king. As long as you had Saul in that role, David refused to talk bad about him or harm him, even when Saul was doing everything in his power to belittle and even kill David. David was forced to run for his life and hide out. David and his people had opportunities to kill Saul, which would have allowed David to take the throne. But David had such patience waiting for your timing and your ways to see him released into that role. Everything would have been easier if he could have just killed Saul and moved into the calling that you had on his life. But he honored you and waited for your timing, trusting you knew best. David honored Saul because you still had him in the place of authority. He refused to condemn himself by belittling or harming your anointed.
Lord, how often in life do we belittle those that are against us that you have placed in our lives. Until you move them out of that role in our lives or move us out of their sphere, help us to honor them in the role you have them in. Help us to be patient and pray for your will to be done. We might know that we have been anointed and appointed to walk in a better place than we are in now. We might be called to it but help us to walk in patience and wait for you to release us into what you have for us. Help us to press in to growing in the place you have us so that we are ready when you do release us. Make us more like David, and never let us condemn ourselves by harming in any way those you have anointed, even if they are not honoring you in that anointing.
In Jesus name, amen.
