“Yet true godliness with contentment is itself great wealth.” 1 Timothy 6:6 NLT
Lord, we want to be content in our lives, regardless of what life looks like. We know there will be hard times but help us learn not to complain. We want to dig into the scriptures that will remind us of the reasons that we have to be content. We want to read the stories of our heroes of faith who have gone through even worse situations yet kept their eyes on you. Even those stories where they failed, let us learn from their failures and not make the same mistakes. Help us shift our complaints to communication with you. Open our eyes to bad attitudes the second they start turning negative and need adjustments. We want to catch it when it needs just a little adjustment and not once it takes major effort to adjust.
Help us learn that not everything in life needs to change because we don’t like it. We want to learn that even when we don’t like it, we can still praise you in it. We can still be content in it. Help us bring those seasons to you and pray that you would remove them, but not turn bitter if you choose to leave us in those places. We want to trust you in those times and not blame you.
Lord, we also ask that you help us not to get so focused on our issues that we get consumed with them. Even when it is the last thing we feel like doing, help us shift our focus outward. It is in those moments of giving that shifts our perspective. Holy Spirit, show us who needs encouragement and where we are to give. Show us what the specific thing is that we can do that will bless the person you show us. Teach us how much helping and focusing on others will change our attitude naturally without us even having to fight to right it. We praise you for the wealth contentment is in our lives. You deserve our praise wherever we are because you are worthy, and you are always with us.
In Jesus name, amen.
