July 12, 2022 - Psalms 121:8
“The Lord will watch over your coming and going both now and forevermore.” Psalms 121:8 NIV
Lord, we praise you that you are our guard, and what a guard you are. You are always there for us. You promise to never leave or forsake us. You are omnipresent. You are all-powerful. You are all-knowing. You don’t miss even the smallest of details. Nothing can outsmart you, take you by surprise, outpower you, get the upper hand, or defeat you. And you watch over us. Wow. Lord, we praise you for this fact. You watch over our coming and going. You go before us and behind us. You are all around us and inside of us. We can trust you completely. This promise will never expire. It is for the now and forevermore. For all eternity you stand guard and watch over us.
Lord, when we list all these facts about you, it makes us wonder why we ever doubt you. Why do we try to handle things on our own and not willingly hand them over to you? Why do we allow fear to have a place in our lives? Help us get these facts past being something that we “believe” in concept, but don’t fully believe enough to live them out. Forgive us for the doubt that we allow in our lives. Open our eyes to the lies that are deeply embedded in us that keep us from fully believing. Show us how to uproot them and then help us get them fully removed. Grow our trust in you. Let us stand firm in faith that you will always be there for us. Teach us how to let go of the control that we want to keep over our lives. We want to fully surrender control to you. We want to hand you the steering wheel of our lives and not only let you drive, but we also commit to not being a “backseat” driver. We give you complete control and trust you to safely carry us through life. We praise you for the beautiful promise of this verse.
