January 25, 2022 - Revelation 5:5-6
“See, the Lion of the tribe of Judah, the Root of David, has triumphed.”…“Then I saw a Lamb, looking as if it had been slain.” Revelation 5:5-6 NIV
Jesus, it is a lovely contrast that we see you in different places in scripture described as both a lion and a lamb. Here in Revelation 5 we see the descriptions back to back. It can be easy to say, “How can you be both a lion and a lamb?” They are the complete opposite. Yet, Lord, you represent both. We want to be like you in this. Teach us how to reflect both your lion and your lamb qualities in our lives.
Lord, we want to be bold and powerful like the lion. We want to be ready to stand up for you and to fight for you as a powerful lion. We also want to have the beauty of a gentle lamb. We want to walk in pure humility. Help us learn how to walk balanced in these two characteristics. We want to live with them equally in our lives. Show us what it means to stand in bold confidence in you without standing in pride. Show us how to walk in humility, but not confuse it with timidity. You found the way to walk perfectly balanced in both of these. Jesus, even when you humbly laid down your life, you didn’t take off your confidence or power. You just willingly surrendered. Teach us how to live this way.
Lord, you also knew when it was time to loudly stand your ground, when it was time to extend your love instead of punishment, when it was time to lay down your rights and surrender. You were in such unity with the Father to hear his voice and obey. You walked in such wisdom. You could discern what each situation needed. Holy Spirit, we ask that you increase these things in us. Increase our boldness and power, along with our humility. Then teach us how to discern each situation and how to live these out in that moment.
In Jesus name, amen.
