“Don’t wear yourself out trying to get rich. Be wise enough to know when to quit. In the blink of an eye wealth disappears for it will sprout wings and fly away like an eagle.” Proverbs 23:4-5 NLT
Lord, we want to be people who have a proper view of money and know how to steward it well. We don’t want to allow the views and mindsets of our culture influence how we live. We want to have a mindset that looks at you as our provider and the supplier of all we need. That doesn’t mean that we don’t work, but we can’t rely solely on our ability to provide for ourselves. Jobs can come and go; economies can rise and fall in the blink of an eye. If we build our stability on those things we can be destroyed when our foundations suddenly shift. We also can’t base all our decisions on money. We want to walk in obedience to whatever you ask of us and not make decisions based on money. We want to be able to walk in full trust of you to provide for whatever you ask of us. We also want to ask you what our role is in coming up with the needed funds.
Lord, we desire to be known by you as generous people. You love to bless us, and I don’t believe you want us living in a place of always being in need, but you bless us so that we can bless others. Help us learn what that really means to you. We don’t want to be people who live to get rich and provide for all our wants. We can keep upgrading to the newest and best and still never have enough. Help us know where to set our needs/wants and when to quit pursuing more. Show us how to live in a way that we have what we need to be secure, but also have the means to bless others in abundance like you bless us. Give us insights on where to give that will be a good investment into your kingdom. Help us live with a greater desire to grow your kingdom than our bank accounts. All for your glory and not ours.
In Jesus name, amen.
