January 21, 2025 - Revelation 1:12-17
“Then I turned to see the voice that was speaking to me, and on turning I saw seven golden lampstands, and in the midst of the lampstands one like a son of man, clothed with a long robe and with a golden sash around his chest. The hairs of his head were white, like white wool, like snow. His eyes were like a flame of fire, his feet were like burnished bronze, refined in a furnace, and his voice was like the roar of many waters. In his right hand he held seven stars, from his mouth came a sharp two-edged sword, and his face was like the sun shining in full strength. When I saw him, I fell at his feet as though dead.” Revelation 1:12-17 ESV
Jesus, what a glorious description of you. John fell at your feet as though dead. John, the one who was one of your closest disciples. He recognized you as God here on earth, but he saw you as a human. What an honor it must have been for him to be given the opportunity to see you in all your glory while he was still here on earth. Lord, you were so much more than the version that he saw of you here on earth. Open our minds to comprehend more of who you are. Even with John painting a picture of you in your glory, we can’t begin to understand. Open our eyes to see you as the God who had John falling at your feet in reverence.
Don’t let us see you as smaller than you are. Forgive us for anyway that we have tried to make you something we can understand, control, manipulate, or just feel comfortable with. Lord, we want all of you. Take us deeper in knowing who you are. When you make us uncomfortable, help us to keep pressing in. Help us to love and serve you like John and continue to take us deeper into the knowledge of you like you did John. Break us out of our comfort zones and let us see more of you for who you are. Enlarge our capacity to know you on a greater level.
In Jesus name, amen.
