January 21, 2023 - Proverbs 21:21

“Whoever pursues righteousness and unfailing love will find life, righteousness, and honor.” Proverbs 21:21 NLT

Lord, we want to pursue righteousness and unfailing love with all that we are. When I read this verse, it caused me to pause. It is a beautiful promise that I want to see in my life. As I stop to ponder on what it means to pursue righteousness and unfailing love, my thoughts went to you. You are righteousness and unfailing love. It means that we are to pursue you. Lord, often when we try to pursue being righteous and work at having unfailing love, we can feel defeated because we always fall short. We are pursuing something that feels impossible to grab. As we feel discouraged, it can cause us to slow down on the pursuit. Please forgive us for this Lord. I think that you don’t want us to pursue those things as much as you want us to pursue more of you. As we find more of you and go deeper in our relationship with you, we will naturally become more righteous and loving. We won’t have to work at it as much as it will flow from us. As we fall more in love with you, loving you and others becomes so much easier. We will also desire to do things that please you and avoid the things that don’t please you. We won’t have to fight the desires to sin nearly as much. Help us learn to shift our pursuit not to the fruit of our relationship with you, but pursue you directly, above all else.

Lord, we want to thank you for the many blessings we obtain when we find more of you. They are countless. Just finding more of you is greater than we could ever ask for, but you give us so much more. We praise you for giving us life and life abundant. We praise you that as we discover more of you, we also find ourselves becoming more righteous. We also praise you for the honor that you send our way. We are so grateful for you and your blessings.
