January 21, 2022 - Genesis 3:6, 7, 8, & 11
“…So she took some of the fruit and ate it. Then she gave some to her husband, who was with her, and he ate it, too. At that moment their eyes were opened, and they suddenly felt shame at their nakedness…When the cool evening breezes were blowing, the man and his wife heard the Lord God walking about in the garden. So they hid from the Lord God among the trees...“Who told you that you were naked?” the Lord God asked.” Genesis 3:6b, 7a, 8b, & 11a NLT
Jesus, how many times do you look at something we are believing and living out and say, “who told you that…?” I know I can recognize things in my life that I am struggling with that come from living under the shame of something someone said over me or did to me. Adam and Eve listened to the lies of the devil. They gave into his temptation and deception. Suddenly, they found themselves “clothed” in shame. They were ashamed of their lives for the first time.
Jesus, we invite you into our lives to ask us the question, “Who told you that…?” Highlight the places we are living under lies spoken over us from people or the enemy. Show us where we are living with “labels” that are not true. Show us where we are living in shame. Open our eyes to see and understand the truth that you have spoken over our lives. Help us start to “relabel” our lives with your truth.
Lord, we ask that you give us clear strategies on how to let go of the lies we are believing. You came to earth and paid the price to set us free. Our freedom has been bought. It is paid for and complete. You broke the chains of shame off us once and for all. We praise you for the freedom that is ours. Teach us how to walk in total freedom. Show us people who can speak the truth into our lives and hold us accountable to letting go of the lies. We no longer want to choose to live under the lies and under shame. We declare that today we will choose to believe your truth. We choose your freedom.
In Jesus name, amen.
