January 17, 2024 - Proverbs 17:27-28
“Can you bridle your tongue when your heart is under pressure? That’s how you show that you are wise. An understanding heart keeps you cool, calm, and collected, no matter what you’re facing. When even a fool bites his tongue he’s considered wise. So shut your mouth when you are provoked— it will make you look smart.” Proverbs 17:27-28 TPT
Lord, this is a hard one. Really easy to read and see the wisdom in what it says, but very hard to actually walk out. We really need your help with this one. We want to be able to bridle our tongue. Especially, when we are being attacked. Open our eyes to see the “attacker” the way you see them. Let us see what is going on behind the scenes and driving the “attack”. Give us insight on how to respond with your wisdom and not in an attack of our own. Help us always to stay cool, calm, and collected. Give us overwhelming peace and patience. Give us the strength needed to bite our tongue and wait for your wisdom to respond. Then give us your words and strategies that will defuse the situation. Always let us remember that you are our defender, and you will always do a better job than us when it comes to defending us. Help us be humble and not let our pride cause us to react based on emotions.
Lord, we want to walk in wisdom all the days of our lives and trust you in every circumstance. Help us to dig in deeper. Purify us. Give us wisdom even when we are under attack, and nothing makes sense. Always help us remember that you are growing us through the situations we find ourselves in. Let us choose to yield to you and choose growth. Make us wise people who are slow to anger and judge. People who are known as lovers of you and your ways. Who are marked by walking in your wisdom, understanding, and ways. Thank you, Lord, for all you are doing in our lives. Even the painful parts. We love you always.
In Jesus name, amen.
