February 8, 2023 - Genesis 9:12-15
“Then God said, “I am giving you a sign of my covenant with you and with all living creatures, for all generations to come. I have placed my rainbow in the clouds. It is the sign of my covenant with you and with all the earth. When I send clouds over the earth, the rainbow will appear in the clouds, and I will remember my covenant with you and with all living creatures. Never again will the floodwaters destroy all life.” Genesis 9:12-15 NLT
Lord, we thank you for your covenants to us. We have such a beautiful reminder for us and you. It is the evidence that you have not forgotten mankind. You love us so much. Who is mankind that you the Most High God would choose to make a covenant with us. Thank you that you don’t see us as small, insignificant beings that are not worthy of your time, attention, or love. Just the opposite, you love us so much that you pour your time, attention, love, & blessings over us constantly. You are always expectantly waiting for us to give you our time, attention, and love. Just…wow!
Father, you not only gave us a rainbow to remind us of this covenant, but you made other covenants with us as well, including The New Covenant. You sent Jesus to earth to shed his blood and die so that we could be restored to you through this covenant. Through the New Covenant you tell us, “And I will forgive their wickedness, and I will never again remember their sins.” (Jeremiah 31:34b) Thank you for how you extend mercy and grace to us. You are a God of justice, and you cannot ignore sin. It would seem there is no hope for us if the punishment for sin is death (Romans 6:23). You must follow through with bringing the punishment that needs to be served or you would not be just. Jesus, thank you for shedding your pure blood to make a way for our pardon. And with that another beautiful covenant was made with us.
In Jesus name, amen.
