February 7, 2024 - 1 Kings‬ ‭18:37-39

““O Lord, answer me! Answer me so these people will know that you, O Lord, are God and that you have brought them back to yourself.” Immediately the fire of the Lord flashed down from heaven and burned up the young bull, the wood, the stones, and the dust. It even licked up all the water in the trench! And when all the people saw it, they fell face down on the ground and cried out, “The Lord—he is God! Yes, the Lord is God!”” 1 Kings 18:37-39 NLT

Backstory: Elijah told the prophets of Baal that he and they would both set up their own altars. Then they would call on their God to set their altar ablaze and whichever god answered was the one true God. Elijah, wanting to prove the power of God, poured water over his altar filling trenches around it.

Lord, we praise you that you are the one true God. No other god even comes remotely close in comparison. You are Almighty and All-powerful - nothing can defeat you. You are the God who hears our prayers and answers. Even though, as the one true God, you should not have to prove yourself, you are constantly showing us who you are. You care for us and want to be known by us. You are such an amazing God. Thank you for allowing us to discover you.

Lord, give us a greater heart for those who don’t know you. Let us, like Elijah, cry out to you for their salvation. Let our hearts for the lost reach past our prayers and into the way we live. We want to be willing to walk in great faith so that they can see your power working in our lives and know you are real. Help us live in radical obedience to you no matter what the cost. We want our lives to show who you are. Not for our glory but for yours Lord.

In Jesus name, amen.
