“And he got into the boat with them, and the wind ceased. And they were utterly astounded, for they did not understand about the loaves, but their hearts were hardened.” Mark 6:51-52 ESV
Lord, I find it interesting how hard it can be for us to fully believe in you. You had been walking with these disciples. They had seen you do miracles. They acknowledged that you were the Messiah. They just witnessed you take 2 fish and 5 loaves of bread and multiply it to feed 5000 men, plus women and children, with 12 basketfuls left over. What a spectacular miracle. Yet, when they witness you commanding the wind and walking on water, they are utterly astounded. They still didn’t grasp that you were the Son of God, and nothing is impossible to you. It says their hearts were hardened.
Lord, where are our hearts too hard to believe? Please soften us. Show us the places where we have limited you in our minds. Where have we made you too small? We give you permission to bust out of the boxes we try to confine you in. We give you permission to make us uncomfortable. We give you permission to knead us in the places where our hearts are too hard. Knead us until we become soft and pliable. Grow our faith to believe you for even the craziest of impossibilities. Do what only you can do in us. Come and have your way and never let it be said of us that our hearts were too hard to believe.
In Jesus name, amen.
